Meet Orla

Over the coming weeks we are looking forward to introducing you to some of the CMETrust community. In preparation for Giving Tuesday, which is fast approaching, we thought we'd kick things off by introducing you to one of our community fundraisers whose unique fundraising idea raised $282 dollars for CMETrust last year, enough to cover the cost of accommodations for a student at school for one year!

Meet Orla

Why did you want to raise funds for CMETrust?

I wanted to raise money for CMETrust because I think every girl and every boy should have a chance to go to school.

How did you come up with the idea for your fundraiser?

I learned how to make the ornaments with my brownie group and I thought it would be a great item to sell and donate the money to CMETrust.

Why do you think education is important?

Education is something that I’m most grateful for. I think education is important because without an education it would be really hard to find a job and to know what your rights are.

Thanks so much to Orla for her great idea and for helping support our scholarships!

Feeling Inspired?

Community fundraising is one great way to support CMETrust, but not the only one! Here are a few ideas:

Securities: Did you know you can donate securities to CMETrust via Canada Helps or Link Charity? And there is still time to donate for this year (and tax advantage of the tax break!)

To find out more about how to donate securities on either platform please contact Consuelo van Beek [email protected] and/or Laurie Anne Guenette [email protected] to discuss.

Work Charitable Campaigns: Did you know many work-run charitable giving programs let you select the charity your money will support?

Congrats to our newest graduates!

During challenging times it can seem like we've run out of any good news, but we've got some and are happy to share it with you! On September 25, two our our Post-Secondary Scholars graduated from their programs!

Big congratulations to Daniel Shiraku Akoi who graduated from the University of Nairobi with a BSc. in Biology and Daniel Onyango Shitandi who graduated from the University of Nairobi with a BSc. in Chemistry.

Along with this great news we wanted to share a few words our graduates sent along to the CMETrust community.

Daniel Shiraku Akoi:

"Being part of CMETrust family has been a blessing to me, and I have learnt a lot of things concerning life through the holiday program activities. Hence this has helped me to handle daily life encounters wisely. As well as not forgetting the interactive sessions I had with the Kenya field reps, the facilitators, fellow scholars and other friends to the organization.

Words cannot express how grateful I am for your support during my education journey."

Daniel Onyango Shitandi:

"I am scripting this letter to convey my honest and genuine gratefulness and appreciation for the support that you have given me both in the field of academics and the field of life. The scholarship was priceless and will definitely help me in my life endeavours, as it has equipped me with the skills in the field of academics and also some of the basic concept on how to handle life.

The monetary help that you gave me enabled me to to pay my learning cost without a single problem and this enabled me to devote most of my time to feed on books and drink knowledge."

Once again a big congratulations fo out graduates and a huge thank you to all of our donors, who make our scholarships, and these opportunities possible.

A (News)letter of Appreciation

In these difficult times, it can be hard to feel grateful, even as we come up to Thanksgiving.

But here at CMETrust, we can't help but appreciate the dedication of our scholars, the innovation and leadership of our alumni and Kenyan team, and the generosity of our donors.

We have accomplished so much during this challenging time. It's truly impressive and worth celebrating. In the coming weeks we'll be shining a spotlight on some of the people who have kept us motivated and moving forward through COVID-19, and sharing ways you can help to support them, and ultimately, our scholars.
