CMETrust has always known that the education of girls and women is paramount to the success of a community. It’s why parity in our scholarship distribution between male and female scholars is one of our key objectives.

And so we are so delighted to announce a five year initiative designed not only to support female scholars in Mathare, but to provide training and support within the community as a whole to reduce barriers to education for girls in Mathare, now and into the future.

Wezesha Kike! (Empower Her!): A Community Approach to Gender Equitable Education is a multi-year scholarship and community transformation project designed to support education of young people in Mathare.

Funded through the generous support of Global Affairs Canada, Wezesha Kike! will cover the secondary school tuition costs of 118 scholars. Beyond this, the initiative will also allow for the creation of in-community programming for students, alumni, parents and guardians.

"We are excited to work with Global Affairs Canada and our partners in Kenya to support girls education in Mathare. The program will provide learning and leadership opportunities that will benefit the girls, their families and the entire community."

- CMETrust President, Heather Arnold

As part of CMETrust’s commitment to gender equity we will continue to provide scholarships for male scholars each year through the generous support of our donors and partners.
